High-pressure die-casting and solution-treated aluminum die-casting
parts
Aluminum die casting
The process of casting aluminum
Casting is the original and most widely used method of forming
aluminum into products. Technical progress has been made, but the
principle remains the same: molten aluminum is poured into a mold
to replicate the desired pattern. The three most important methods
are die casting, permanent mold and sand casting.
Die Casting
The die-casting process presses molten aluminum into a steel mold
(die) under pressure. This manufacturing technique is usually used
for mass production. This casting method can produce
precision-shaped aluminum parts that require minimal machining and
finishing.
Permanent mold
Permanent casting molds involve casting molds and cores of steel or
other metals. Molten aluminum is usually poured into the mold,
although vacuum is sometimes applied. The strength of permanent
molds can be higher than that of die casting or sand casting. When
the permanent core cannot be removed from the finished part,
semi-permanent casting technology can be used.
Sand casting
The most common method of producing aluminum products is sand
casting. The process starts with a pattern that is a replica of the
finished casting. Almost any pattern can be pressed into the fine
sand mixture to form a mold into which aluminum is poured. The
pattern is slightly larger than the part to be manufactured to
allow aluminum to shrink during solidification and cooling.
Compared with die casting and permanent molds, the sand casting
process is slow, but it is usually more economical for small
quantities, complex designs, or very large casting volumes.

Benefits of die casting/aluminum die casting
Aluminum die casting is an efficient and economical process that
offers a wider range of shapes and components than any other
manufacturing technology. The parts have a long service life and
can be designed to complement the visual appeal of surrounding
parts. By specifying die castings, designers can obtain many
advantages and benefits.
High-speed production: Die casting of aluminum die castings can
provide complex shapes with more precise tolerances than many other
mass production processes. Little or no machining is required, and
thousands of identical castings can be produced before additional
tools are required.
Dimensional accuracy and stability: Aluminum die-casting parts
produced by die-casting are durable and dimensionally stable while
maintaining tight tolerances. They are also heat resistant.
Strength and weight: Aluminum die castings are stronger than
plastic injection molded parts of the same size. Thin-walled
castings are stronger and lighter than other casting methods. In
addition, since die castings are not composed of separate parts
welded or fastened together, the strength is the strength of the
alloy, not the strength of the joining process.
Multiple finishing technologies: Aluminum die castings can produce
products with smooth or rough surfaces, and they can be easily
electroplated or finished with minimal surface treatment.
Simplified assembly: Aluminum die-casting parts provide integral
fastening elements such as bosses and studs. The hole can be
punched and made into a size suitable for tapping and drilling, or
it can be cast with external threads.
