What is a Hygienic Air Handler?
Hygienic air handlers are customized industrial refrigeration air
handling systems that supply clean, filtered and conditioned air to
food processing rooms and critical process areas. The supplied air
is managed by the air handler to control strict room climate
conditions, with the ultimate goal of creating an environment
promoting higher levels of sanitation while hindering bacteria
growth and spread.
How do Hygienic Air Handlers promote sanitary conditions in food
processing rooms?
Food producers work hard to ensure our food supply is safe.
Successfully eliminating opportunities for food contamination
starts with sanitary food conditions. Hygienic air handlers control
the air delivered to processing, packaging and storage areas in the
following ways to greatly improve sanitary conditions and reduce
contamination sources:
1. Pre Filter Fresh Outdoor Air - Remove contaminants from incoming
air.
2. Provide Room Cooling - Maintain room cooling setpoints to hinder
bacteria growth.
3. Control Humidity - Prevent condensation inside processing rooms
to eliminate opportunities for bacteria to spread.
4. UV Lights for Sterilization - Kill bacteria on cooling coils.
5. High Filtration with Final Filters - Filter contaminants from
entering the ductwork and room.
6. Supply Positive Room Pressure - Processing rooms under positive
pressure block infiltration of airborne contaminants from adjoining
rooms and hallways.
7. Energy Efficient Operation - Uses pre-cooled return air to
greatly reduce cooling load.
8. Eliminates the Need for Ceiling Mounted Cooling Units -
Equipment is typically located on the building rooftop. No
mechanical equipment on ceilings in critical process rooms.
Promotes sanitary room conditions, safety and effective room
cleaning.
Main function section description
l Mixed section
The air mixing section is used to mix air in different states, and
to control and adjust the flow of air. Generally, it is equipped
with a return air inlet and a fresh air outlet, and is equipped
with a manual or electric air volume control valve.
l Primary-efficiency filter section
The primary filter section is used at the front end of the entire
unit to intercept large particles such as dust and hair in the air,
which can prolong the service life of the secondary filter.
According to different wind speed, material, grade, thickness and
technology, the initial resistance of the initial filter section is
150Pa, and the final resistance is about 120Pa.
l Medium-efficiency filter section
The medium-efficiency filter section is used at the back end of the
primary filter section to intercept large particles such as dust
and hair in the air, which can prolong the use of the post-filter.
According to different wind speed, material, grade, thickness and
process, the initial resistance of the initial filter section is
15-50Pa, and the final resistance is 120Pa.
l Sub-high-efficiency/high-efficiency filter section
The sub-high-efficiency filter section is used at the back end of
the medium-efficiency filter section, intercepting dust and
impurities with a particle size of 0.5μm in the air, with a
moderate collection efficiency, which can extend the service life
of the subsequent filter.
According to the wind speed, material, grade, thickness and process
of the medium-efficiency filter section, its return force is
30-60Pa, and the final resistance is about 150Pa.
The filtration efficiency of the high-efficiency filter section can
reach 99%, and its final resistance is about 300Pa. It is mostly
used in high-grade clean rooms, operating rooms and other places
with high cleanliness requirements.
l Coil dehumidification section
The coil dehumidification section is used to cool and dehumidify
the air, and play a role in regulating the environment and
environmental humidity. Generally divided into chilled water type
and refrigerant direct expansion type.
l Heating section
It is generally placed after the surface cooling section to adjust
the ambient temperature. It is generally divided into three types:
hot water type, steam type and electric heating type.
l Humidification section
It is generally placed after the heating section to adjust the
temperature of the environment, and is generally divided into dry
steam type, electrode type, high pressure micro mist type,
ultrasonic wave and wet curtain.
l Fan section
It is used to make the air in the local environment pass through
the combined air conditioning unit and circulate, and do
corresponding treatment according to requirements.
l Sterilization section
It uses air or oxygen as raw materials to generate ozone by
high-frequency and high-voltage discharge. It is recognized as a
broad-spectrum and highly effective bactericide in the world. Ozone
has one more active oxygen atom than oxygen molecule. It has a very
active chemical property and is a strong oxidant. It can quickly
kill bacteria in the air at a certain concentration, without any
toxic residue, and will not form secondary pollution.
