The diaphragm and backplane of the microphone are regarded as the two plates of the parallel plate capacitor. The charging time may take a few seconds, which can be regarded as the startup time of the capacitive microphone.After charging, the parallel plate capacitor has charge accumulation, and the charge q = external bias voltage × Diaphragm backplane capacitance.

This makes the parallel plate capacitor work in constant charge mode.

When the acoustic pressure acts on the diaphragm, the distance d between the two plates of the parallel plate capacitor begins to increase or decrease. The relationship between the diaphragm backplane capacitance C and the distance d between the plates is as follows:
