Why do robots need machine vision systems?
1. Robotic applications without machine vision have limitations
The position must be fixed: In the production line of robot-assisted production, the movement
position of the robot is preset according to the characteristics of
the produced product, that is, the action is performed according to
the preset movement trajectory. Therefore, a certain jig is
required to ensure the fixation of the position of the product. If
the product specifications are diverse, a large number of special
fixtures are required to fix the product position. The cost is high
and the work of changing the fixture is huge. |
Contradiction between precision and reliability: The higher the precision requirements of robot assembly, the
higher the precision of the required jig. The higher the precision
of the jig, the more difficult it is for the precision of the robot
body to assemble accurately and reliably every time. |
Disadvantages of contact positioning: Some products cannot be supported by mechanical fixtures because
of their delicate surfaces, so as not to damage the surface. Some
products cannot be grasped reliably because they are flexible
materials. |
2. The help of machine vision system for robot application
Position adjustment: use the vision system to inform the position of the robot product,
provide the positioning information of the grab, and only need to
replace the inspection file of the product to replace the product.
Save a lot of mechanical costs and the time needed to replace the
fixture. |
Multiple positioning to ensure accuracy: a low-precision jig or a coarse positioning vision system can be
used to realize the robot to complete the work of grasping the
product. After grasping, the characteristics of the object are
accurately captured by the vision system to achieve high-precision
positioning, so that the robot can further correct the position
after grasping, and achieve precise assembly. |
Non-contact measurement: The machine vision system uses an optical measurement method,
which will not damage the surface of the object and will not be
unable to measure because the object is flexible. |
3. Limitations of stand-alone machine vision systems in production
- Unable to observe comprehensively: From the principle of imaging, a camera can only capture the image
information of one plane. For complex objects, when multiple faces
need to be detected, many cameras are often required to work
together. If the product has many specifications, cameras with
different specifications need to be adjusted to different positions
to detect. It makes the whole detection system abnormally
complicated.
- Contradiction between accuracy and field of view: Limited by the resolution of the camera's photosensitive chip, the
larger the field of view, the lower the resolution accuracy. In
this case, high-precision detection cannot be achieved for large
objects.
4. The help of the robot to the application of the machine vision
system
- Possibility of multi-pose: By installing the vision system on the joints of the robot, the
robot can be used to adjust the position of the camera or the light
source to meet the detection requirements of various postures,
thereby realizing the detection application of multi-specification
and complex products.
- Follow-up detection: By using a robot with a camera to traverse each detection part of
a large detection object or follow the movement trajectory of the
robot for real-time detection, it can achieve high-precision
detection of large objects with a small field of view.
