1. What is the key difference between tension and spring force?
The tension force is directed along the length of the wire and
pulls equally on the objects on the opposite ends of the wire. The
spring force is the force exerted by a compressed or stretched
spring upon any object that is attached to it.
2. What is the tension of a string?
In physics, tension is described as the pulling force transmitted
axially by the means of a string, a cable, chain, or similar
object, or by each end of a rod, truss member, or similar
three-dimensional object; tension might also be described as the
action-reaction pair of forces acting at each end of said elements.
3. Is tension equal to weight?
The pulling force that acts along a stretched flexible connector,
such as a rope or cable, is called tension, T. When a rope supports
the weight of an object that is at rest, the tension in the rope is
equal to the weight of the object: T = mg.
4. Why is tension important in physics?
If one of the force exerting object is a rope, cable or chain, you
can call it as tension. Cables and Ropes can be used for exerting
forces since they can transfer a force over a specific distance
efficiently (e.g. the rope length). Please note that tension is the
pulling force since ropes cannot push effectively.
5. Can tension be a normal force?
Tension is just a pulling force that a rope gives to the object it
is attached to. It has nothing to do with normal force. the force
with which the block pulls the force back can be called normal
which even though will have magnitude of tension as per newtons
third law they are different.
