Pelleting process actually occurs when the feed materials are
pressed between the ring die and the rolls. The mash materials
under high pressure bring about mechanical interlocking and
increased adhesion between the materials to form inter-molecular
bonds in the contact area. The binding mechanisms under high
pressure can be divided into adhesion and cohesion forces,
attractive forces between solid particles, and interlocking bonds.
Another important binding mechanism is van der waals’ forces. They
are prominent at extremely short distance between the adhesion
partners. To obtain this type of bond, compression and shear forces
must always act on the system. The strength of the resulting
agglomerate depends only the type of interaction e material
characteristics.
