How to control chip during turning milling compound machining
In turning milling combined processing, the hardness of the chip
increases, the plasticity decreases and the performance becomes
brittle after the chip is severely deformed in the deformation
zone. In the process of chip discharge, if the strain of a part
exceeds the fracture strain value of the chip material, the chip
will break when it encounters obstacles such as the tool flank, the
workpiece transition surface or the surface to be machined.
The greater the brittleness of the workpiece material (the smaller
the fracture strain value), the greater the cutting thickness, and
the smaller the cutting curl radius, the easier the chip will
break. The following measures can be taken to control chips:
1. Chip breaking groove is adopted. By setting the chip breaking
groove, a certain restraint force is exerted on the chips in the
flow, so that the chip strain increases and the chip curl radius
decreases.
2. Change the tool angle. Increasing the main deflection angle of
the tool will increase the cutting thickness, which is conducive to
chip breaking. Reducing the rake angle of the tool can increase the
chip deformation and the chip is easy to break. The cutter
inclination can control the flow direction of the chip. When the
blade inclination is positive, the chip is often broken by the rear
cutter face after curling to form C-shaped chip or flows out
naturally to form spiral chip; When the blade inclination angle is
negative, the chip often breaks against the machined surface after
curling to form C-shaped chip or 6-shaped chip.
Adjust the cutting amount. Increasing the feed F increases the
cutting thickness, which is beneficial to the chip; However,
increasing F will increase the roughness value of the machined
surface. Reducing the cutting speed appropriately will increase the
deformation, which is beneficial to chip breaking, but it will
reduce the material removal efficiency. Therefore, the cutting
parameters must be properly selected according to the actual
conditions of turning milling in Dongguan.
