Corten steel is our favourite option for fire pits as it’s very low
maintenance. Corten steel develops a stable rust look patina which
protects the steel without the use of paints. The naturally
occurring rusty look oxidisation will change and evolve over time,
no two fire pits are the same! Thick gauge corten steel that has
developed a rich colour and texture that also acts as a protective
coating. Perfect for residential or commercial use, in landscape
design, as a fire bowl or water feature. All our corten fire pit
come pre-weathered so no need to wait 6-9 months for that beautiful
golden brown patina. The colour will continue to develop as it
weathers and while this process is happening there will be a rust
runoff. Corten steel is a special steel originally developed for
bridge building and skyscraper construction due to its incredible
strength. When the steel weathers it develops a dense oxidisation
layer which protects the blue steel inside. If this protective
layer is compromised, it will simply form a new skin to protect
itself.
