Advantages of Applying Car Wrap Film:
- Prevents damage from overheating. Provided you choose a model
resistant to ultraviolet radiation or something that reflects light
well, your car takes in less heat. If used on the hood, it can keep
the scorching sun off of your car’s essential components.

- Professional results. Unlike many vehicular accessories, this is
something even an experienced DIYer can take on. Car vinyl wraps
are made to be user-friendly and intuitive, with the material
responding to heat and doing a lot of the work for you. Provided
you take your time during setup, it’s shocking how smooth and
stylish a newly-wrapped car can be.
- Affordable improvement. Getting your own car vinyl wrap can save
you some expensive shop time. Though the project isn’t complex, it
is time-consuming, and anyone who’s been to a mechanic knows that
those hours can add up. Thankfully, vinyl wraps are easy to get in
place, have evolved a lot since Milton Hershey invented them in
1900.
- Useful on exterior and interior. When you think of car vinyl wrap,
you might think of a complete exterior overhaul. But vinyl has
applications inside your car as well. If you cut it to size and
pick a suitable color, it can really jazz up your dashboard, accent
your radio, or make your doors more stylish. Yes, vinyl wraps are
functional, but they also lend themselves to artistic applications.
- Customize your car’s look. A vinyl wrap is a whole lot more
affordable and much more noticeable than opting for a spoiler or a
new set of rims, creating lasting, impactful changes of your
vehicle’s look. You can get wraps in any color, letting you
completely overhaul your car’s appearance without making any
mechanical modifications.
- HOW TO REMOVE VINYL FROM YOUR CAR
1. Pull the wrap away from the edges at a steep angle, pulling the
wrap back on itself at 15 to 20 degrees. When the wrap gets hard to
pull, reheat and start pulling again.
2. Use the heat gun to evenly heat the surface of the wrap to about
120 °F (50 °C). This will loosen the adhesive so you can pull it
off. Use a non-contact infrared thermometer to confirm you aren’t
overheating, which can lead to excessive adhesive residue left on
the surface.
3.Finally, use Turtle Wax Label & Sticker Remover or Bug & Tar
Remover to remove any adhesive residue from the surface of the
panel.
4.Use your fingernail or plastic scraper to pull the wrap from the
edges of the entire panel. It’s going to look gnarly, but it’ll all
be gone in a few minutes.
FAQs:
- How long does vinyl wrap last?
Depending on the quality of the wrap, type of vinyl wrap, care
taken during installing, care after installation, and environmental
factors, car wraps can last from three to ten years.
- Can I put my wrapped car through a car wash?
Hand washing is best for vinyl wraps, but brushless or touchless
car washes can be just as safe. You can even use a pressure washer
if you’re gentle.
- Is there anything you can’t wrap?
Vinyl car wrap sticks best to smooth factory paints and smooth
rigid plastic surfaces. It won’t bond well, if at all, to poor
paint jobs, orange peel, deep scratches, gouges, rust, chipped
paint, flaking paint, textured surfaces, rubber, ABS plastics,
porous or spongy surfaces.
- How Do You Maintain a Wrapped Car?
The best way to ensure a wrap will last is to keep the car in a
garage. If you don't have a garage, invest in a good car cover. You
should handwash the car with soft microfiber towels. Automatic car
washes are off-limits: The harsh brushes could scratch or lift off
the wrap.
