According to the different implementation principles and technical
means, the 8-channel optical switch can be divided into a variety
of types, including but not limited to:
Mechanical optical switch: Through the movement of mechanical
structures (such as micro mirrors, rotating arms, etc.) to change
the direction of the optical path to achieve the switch of optical
signals. This type of optical switch usually has high stability and
reliability, but the switching speed is relatively slow.
MEMS optical switch (micro-electro-mechanical system optical
switch) : The use of micro-electronic technology to manufacture
tiny mechanical structures to achieve the switching of optical
signals. MEMS optical switches combine the stability of mechanical
optical switches with the high speed of electronic devices, and
have the advantages of small size, light weight, low power
consumption and fast switching speed.
Electro-optical switch: Changes the refractive index of the
material through electro-optical effects (such as the Pucker
effect), and then controls the propagation path of the optical
signal. Electro-optical switches usually have higher switching
speeds and wider bandwidths, but may require higher drive voltages.
