1. Potentiometers come in many shapes and sizes. Look around in
stores or on the Internet, and you should be able to find the
perfect potentiometer for every need.
2. Some potentiometers are very small and can only be adjusted with
a small screwdriver. This type of potentiometer is called a trimmer
potentiometer and is designed to make occasional fine adjustments
to circuits.
3. A switch is integrated in some potentiometers, so when you turn
the knob all the way to one side or pull the knob out, the switch
can turn the circuit on or off.

Resistor material classification
Carbon Film: Use a carbon film as a resistive film.
Metal Film: A special cermet film made of a mixture of ceramic and

Wirewound: Use a metal wire wound as a resistor. Compared with
carbon film or ceramic gold film, it can withstand higher power.
Tectonic classification
Rotary: The common form. The usual rotation angle is about 270 to
300 degrees.
Single-loop: The most common form.
Multi-turn type: used for occasions requiring precise adjustment.
Linear Slide: Often used in mixers to instantly see where the
volume is and to do fade controls.
Quantity classification
Single type: One shaft only controls a single potentiometer.
Duplex: Two potentiometers are controlled by the same shaft, mainly
used in two-channel, which can control two channels at the same
time.
Resistance value change scale classification
Linear scale type: The change of resistance value is linearly
related to the rotation angle or moving distance. This type of
potentiometer is called a B-type potentiometer.
Logarithmic scale type: The change of resistance value is
logarithmic with the rotation angle or moving distance. The main
purpose of this type of potentiometer is volume control, among
which the A-type potentiometer is commonly used, which is suitable
for clockwise direction for high volume and counterclockwise
direction For the occasion of low volume; In addition, there is
another C-type potentiometer with the opposite direction of change
of logarithmic scale.
Classified by the material of the resistor body
Potentiometers can be divided into two categories: wire-wound
potentiometers and non-wire-wound potentiometers according to the
material of the resistor body. Wire-wound potentiometers can be
divided into general-purpose wire-wound potentiometers, precision
wire-wound potentiometers, high-power wire-wound potentiometers,
and pre-adjusted wire-wound potentiometers. Non-wire wound
potentiometers can be divided into two types: solid potentiometers
and membrane potentiometers. The solid potentiometer is divided
into organic synthetic solid potentiometer, inorganic synthetic
solid potentiometer and conductive plastic potentiometer. Membrane
potentiometers are further divided into carbon film potentiometers
and metal film potentiometers [1].
