Benefits of Spherical Hobs in Hydromill Cutting
Cost Savings: The use of spherical hobs leads to significant reductions in
expenses related to hydromill cutting in hard rock, facilitating
faster project delivery.
Streamlined Processes: The absence of a need for precutting holes simplifies machinery
requirements and construction workflows.
Prolonged Operating Duration: The hob-tooth hydromill wheel supports continuous operation for
up to 100 hours, reducing the need for frequent hydromill lifts and
extending project timelines while decreasing labor demands.
Reduced Maintenance Needs: Operating with less strain on the gearbox, the hydromill module
enhances efficiency and minimizes both maintenance time and costs.
Low Environmental Impact: This technology causes minimal disruption to the ground, making
it ideal for projects located close to existing infrastructures.
Improved Cutting Deflection: The design optimizes deflection capabilities, making it effective
for hydromill cutting in challenging rock conditions.
Precision in Operations: Trenches can be aligned vertically with an accuracy of up to 1‰,
ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Fuel Efficiency: The system achieves over 20% fuel savings, averaging 73L/h with a
CAT C18 engine, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental
friendliness.
Cutting Wheels: Gearbox and Spherical Hobs
For a spherical hob to function effectively, it must generate
adequate downforce, with each hob requiring a minimum of 5 tons.
For a wheel with a thickness of 1200mm, there are a total of 54
hobs. On average, about one-third, or 18 hobs, actively engage in
rock breaking, necessitating a total pressure of at least 90 tons.
Consequently, each gearbox must be capable of withstanding 45 tons
of pressure, highlighting the importance of robust radial
load-bearing capabilities.
The hob operates as a rolling rock-breaker, which means it doesn’t
need high torque. For safety, the gearbox is rated for a torque of
150 kNm. Its output end features a tapered hexagonal design, which
facilitates quick and easy installation and removal of the cutting
wheel.
The spherical hob incorporates two primary types of fixed cutting
tools: side hydromills and main cutting hydromills. Each trajectory
line is equipped with three side hydromills and two main cutting
hydromills. Additionally, the design includes a flapper tooth
structured as a roller. This simple yet effective design provides
superior force resistance compared to traditional machines, where
the heavier flapper tooth structure can lead to rapid wear of wear
blocks and guide rings.
To keep the Spherical hob work, sufficient downforce must be
exerted on it. This is the basis for the success of the Spherical
hob. This solution mainly adds a pressure device between the
cutting module body and the wheel, so that modifications can be
made on the basis of the existing module with low cost. After the
downforce increased, the original gearbox's load-bearing capacity
was insufficient, and a larger gearbox needed to be redesigned. Due
to the limitation of the wheel size, the original shock absorber
ring should be removed. This solution places the shock absorbing
device between the motor reducer and the module.
