OM5 fiber Jumpers Description:

OM5 fiber Jumpers was originally called broadband multimode fiber jumper (WBMMF).

It is a new standard of fiber jumper defined by TIA and IEC. The fiber diameter is 50 / 125μm.

Compared with OM3 and OM4 fiber jumper, OM5 Fiber jumpers can be used for higher bandwidth applications.

The manufacturing process of optical fiber preforms for OM5 fiber patch cables has been optimized so that it can support higher bandwidths.

In terms of structure, it is no different from OM3 and OM4 fiber jumpers, so it can be fully backward compatible with traditional OM3 and OM4 multimode fiber jumpers.

In addition, in February 2017, TIA stipulated that the identification color of OM5 fiber jumpers is aqua, and OM3 and OM4 fiber jumpers can still be used with OM5 fiber jumpers.

The only difference is that the color of the outer jacket needs to be changed in order Easily identify the OM5 connection.

OM5 fiber is more scalable and flexible, and can support higher-speed network transmission with a smaller number of multimode fiber cores, but the cost and power consumption are much lower than single-mode fiber. Therefore, it will be widely used in the future 100G / 400G / 1T super-large data center.

OM5 fiber Jumpers Advantage:

1. Om5 fiber is at least as good as OM4 in supporting all traditional applications, and it is fully compatible and interoperable with OM3 and OM4 fiber.

2. Om5 is designed to support at least four low-cost wavelengths in the range of 850-950 nm, so as to optimize the support for emerging short wave division multiplexing (sdwm) applications, reduce the number of parallel fibers by at least four times, use only two fibers (instead of eight) to continuously transmit 40Gb / s and 100GB / s, reduce the number of fibers and achieve higher speed. In the future, SWDM technology may also be used to achieve Ethernet transmission speeds of 200, 400 and 800Gb / s in multimode fiber.
