Mustang trek is considered as one of the restricted areas of Nepal.
Bordered with Tibet in the middle part of Nepal, Mustang trek is
compared as Shangri-La hidden valley with Tibetan landscape. The
landscape constructed in upper Mustang region looks like Tibetan
geographical structure. You will trek through the mountainous
village without green forest and opened hills faced with the
snow-capped mountains in the far distance. You will visit the
landscape with and without snow-capped, monasteries and villages
along the way. The trek on the landscape like dessert looking the
White Mountains in far distance will touch your heart that perhaps
you will always miss it. Unlike trekking sometimes through green
forest and villages faced rugged mountain in other trekking, you
will trek on the landscape without forest. The trek sometimes
descends and ascends following the river and valley.
Tibetan Buddhism is still being practiced in a very pure form and
villages are built in Tibetan style, with white-washed typical
houses with firewood tucked on the roofs. Not only the culture,
also the landscape is very much related to Tibet.
Mustang-Lo Manthang lies in the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri and
you walk in a complete desolate landscape, surrounded by rocks in
all kind of colors and bizarre formations. In this barren
landscape, the villages with their bright colored fields are like
an oasis.
