Components of the Drive System
1.Engine: The heart of the excavator, typically a diesel engine,
generates the power needed to run the hydraulic system and other
components.
2.Hydraulic Pump: Driven by the engine, this pump generates
hydraulic pressure by moving hydraulic fluid through the system.
3.Hydraulic Fluid: A special fluid that transmits power through the
hydraulic system.
4.Control Valves: These regulate the flow and pressure of hydraulic
fluid to different parts of the system.
5.Travel Motors: Hydraulic motors loCATEEed in the tracks or
undercarriage, which convert hydraulic energy into mechanical
energy to drive the tracks.
6.Final Drives: Gearboxes attached to the travel motors that
increase torque and reduce speed, providing the necessary force to
move the tracks.
7.Tracks: Continuous tracks made of metal or rubber that provide
traction and stability for the excavator.
How It Works
1.Power Generation: The engine powers the hydraulic pump, which
generates hydraulic pressure.
2.Hydraulic Fluid Distribution: The hydraulic fluid is pressurized
and routed through control valves to various parts of the system,
including the travel motors.
3.Travel Motor Activation: When the operator moves the control
levers or pedals, the control valves direct hydraulic fluid to the
travel motors.
Forward/Backward Movement: Hydraulic fluid is directed to the
travel motors on either side of the excavator. By adjusting the
flow and direction of the fluid, the motors rotate the tracks in
the desired direction (forward or backward).
Turning: By varying the hydraulic flow to each travel motor, one
track can move faster or in the opposite direction of the other,
causing the excavator to turn.
4.Final Drive Engagement: The travel motors turn the input shafts
of the final drives. The final drives increase torque and reduce
speed, ensuring the tracks have enough force to move the excavator
over various terrains.
5.Track Movement: The final drives turn the sprockets, which engage
with the track links, propelling the tracks and moving the
excavator.
