Standard: Clause 11.7 and 21.7 of IEC 60335-2-2 Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety: Part 2-2: Particular requirements for Vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances.

Application: It is used to verify whether the pressure steam iron and fast steam iron should have reliable safety protection measures to prevent the risk of over-pressure, if the steam or hot water is sprayed through the protective device, then the electrical insulation shall not be impaired and shall not cause harm to the user. It is also used for steam iron endurance test.

Test sample: Open type steam iron, pressure steam iron and fast steam iron.

Feature: For pressure type steam irons, measuring the maximum pressure that occurs during the test of Chapter 11 when the evaporator is filled with water but without steam is emitted. Then make all pressure regulators not operating during the test, and measure the pressure again. The pressure should not rise above 200 kPa (2bars). Then all of the protective means for limiting the pressure are rendered ineffective, and the pressure in the evaporator is increased by a pressure of water to 5 times of the initial measured pressure value or to 2 times of the measured pressure value when the operates regulator does not work during the test of chapter 11, whichever is larger, and the tank should be no leakage.

For pressure type steam irons, the regulating means for the steam is fitted in the evaporator , which shall operate in accordance with the provisions of Chapter n, but shall cause all pressure regulators not operating during the test of clause 11, open the enclosure except for the weak areas reserved on the evaporator housing, the hose should have no leakage. If leakage occurs at a reserve location, repeat the test on another sample, and should be leaked in the same place.

Close all openings in the fast steam iron soleplate, and increase the pressure in the tank by means of water until the pressure limiting protection device is actuated. This pressure should not exceed 50 kPa (0.5 bar). The outlet of the protective device is then closed and the pressure in the tank is raised to 100 kPa (1 bar) and maintained at this pressure for 1 min. Water tank should be no leakage.
