Descriptions
Economizers (or economisers) are devices that cut energy use—like
preheating fluids. The term gets used in other ways too, but here
we’re talking about their roles in boilers, power plants, heating,
refrigeration, ventilation, and HVAC. Simply put, an economizer is
a heat exchanger.
In boilers, these heat exchangers warm fluids (usually water) up
to—but not past—their boiling point. They’re called “economizers”
because they use heat from streams that are hot but not hot enough
for the boiler itself. This reclaims extra energy, making the
boiler more efficient. They basically use boiler exhaust gases to
preheat the feedwater, saving energy in the process.
Our economizer is made with high-frequency welding: steel strips
are automatically spiral-welded onto plain tubes in a specific
structure. Then we bend the remaining plain tube parts and assemble
them as needed. The payoff? Same diameter and length, but a bigger
heat transfer area.
