Daily self-inspection and maintenance advice:
1. Since all navigation lights are located outside the deck of the ship, they are susceptible to sea water, rainwater.
a. Regularly check whether the lamps are leaking
b. Make sure to apply a waterproof material, such as silicone, when turning on the lamp to replace the bulb
c. Visually inspect the shell for salt formation. If salt formation is found, it means that seawater has infiltrated.
d. Regularly clean the glass of the luminaire for good lighting/signal
e. Check that the lamp holder in the fitting is severely corroded.
2. Since the navigation lights are located at the highest point of the ship, they are always subject to vibration when the main engine is running. This is another cause of bulb failure.
a. Make sure to use vibration-damping materials such as rubber gasket materials as much as possible.
b. When operating the navigation light, check for loose nuts, bolts and brackets. Tighten and secure them as necessary.
d. The structure that confines the installation of lamps.
3. Lamp life is often reduced due to constant sunlight exposure, especially when made of plastic. Therefore, it is best to install light fixtures made of weatherproof brass.
4. Line maintenance
Navigation light wires fixed to the mast are often tangled or loose due to weather exposure. Please check the wires for loose connections and secure the wires with cable leads. Check the condition of these wires regularly.
