OPGW Cable Overview
The Optical Power Ground Wire (OPGW) is a special type of cable
that integrates optical fibers within the ground wire of overhead
high-voltage transmission lines. By combining the functions of
lightning protection, grounding, and optical communication, OPGW
provides a reliable and efficient solution for modern power grids.
The optical fibers inside the cable enable high-speed data
transmission, while the surrounding metal wires ensure excellent
mechanical performance and electrical protection. Compared with
traditional optical cable installations, OPGW reduces construction
time, lowers overall costs, and improves long-term stability.
Key Features & Advantages
Advanced Protection: Stainless steel tube design filled with water-blocking compounds provides superior protection for optical fibers against moisture and mechanical stress.
High Mechanical Strength: Compact structure with excellent tensile strength to withstand harsh environments and strong mechanical loads.
Electrical Performance: Effectively reduces interference between the power grid and communication system during short-circuit conditions.
Easy Installation: Designed to match conventional ground wire specifications, OPGW can be installed conveniently and directly replace existing ground wires without major modifications.
Dual Functionality: Offers both grounding protection for the power system and high-capacity optical communication channels, ensuring reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Wide Applications: Ideal for use in power transmission lines, substations, and smart grid communication networks.
Main Functions
OPGW cables are primarily applied in power communication systems,
working together with accessories for relay protection, automatic
control, and data transmission. They are installed alongside
high-voltage power lines, combining optical communication and
grounding functions.
Structure
The Stranded Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) is manufactured with two or
three layers of aluminum-clad steel wires (ACS), or a mix of ACS
and aluminum alloy wires. This design is optimized to meet the
common structural and mechanical demands of power transmission
lines.
Fiber Specifications
Optional fiber types: G652D, G655C, G657A1, 50/125, 62.5/125, OM3, OM4
