The figure-8 aerial fiber optic cable employs a self-supporting
design where optical fibers are encased in gel-filled loose buffer
tubes, which are stranded concentrically around a non-metallic
central strength member. To ensure waterproof integrity, the cable
core is treated with water-blocking gel or equivalent sealing
compounds that inhibit moisture penetration and longitudinal
migration. For mechanical reinforcement, the structure incorporates
corrugated steel tape armor. The complete assembly, including the
load-bearing galvanized steel messenger wire, is enclosed within a
protective black polyethylene (PE) outer sheath for environmental
durability.
