# Incoloy alloy a286 properties

Incoloy Alloy A286 (also known as A286 stainless steel) is a nickel and iron-based, austenitic superalloy that is useful for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1300°F (704°C), and for lower stress applications at higher temperatures. The mechanical properties of this alloy are developed by suitable solution annealing and precipitation hardening treatments.

This alloy has excellent high temperature oxidation resistance and is designed to maximize creep and stress rupture properties, with some reduction in strength. A-286 material can attain high strength levels when aged after cold work, and has wide applications in high temperature fasteners and springs. We stock A286 steel in round bar (AMS 5731, 5732, 5737), sheet and coil forms (AMS 5525, 5858), with a variety of cutting and processing services available.

# Resistance to Corrosion and Oxidation

Type A286 alloy content is similar in chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to some of the austenitic stainless stees. Consequently, this alloy possesses a similar level of aqueous corrosion resistance to these grades. In higher temperature services, the level of corrosion resistance to atmospheres such as those found in jet engine applications is excellent to at least 1300°F (704°C). Oxidation resistance is high for continuous service up to 1500°F (816°C) and intermittent service up to 1800°F (982°C).
