Inconel 600 UNS N06600 Alloy Sheet Coil

# inconel 600 properties

Inconel 600 (AMS 5540) is a nickel-chromium alloy designed for use at cryogenic temperatures and elevated temperatures up to 2000°F (1093°C). The high nickel content of alloy 600 provides good resistance to reducing environments, as well as exceptional resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, while the chromium content provides resistance to weaker oxidizing conditions. It exhibits high strength and is oxidation resistant, and while it cannot be precipitation hardened, cold working of alloy 600 materials can considerably harden them. This material is often used in the chemical processing, heat treating industry, soap manufacturing, electrical, nuclear and aeronautical fields. Our alloy 600 products are available in sheet and coil in a variety of stock sizes.

Nickel alloy 600 (UNS N06600) is preferred over grades like alloy 200 when sulfur compounds or heavily oxidizing conditions are present. This material is nearly immune to chloride ions and subsequent stress corrosion cracking, except in caustic alkalis, where stress relieving at elevated temperatures (1650°F / 900°C for 1 hour) before use is recommended.

Machining Inconel 600 can be difficult due to work hardening, and should be done in the annealed condition. Machining is somewhat comparable to 304 and requires heavy duty tooling to handle this material, and it can be cold formed with standard fabrication techniques. It is non-magnetic, like other Inconel alloys, and displays similar cold forming characteristics to chromium-nickel stainless steels.

Welding alloy 600 can be done through typical welding, brazing, and soldering operations and does not require post weld annealing.
