Common troubleshooting of car horns
Let's first take a look at how the speaker works. When the horn
button on the steering wheel or other positions is pressed, the
current from the battery will flow to the electromagnetic coil of
the horn relay through the loop. The electromagnetic coil attracts
the movable contact switch of the relay to close, and the current
will flow to the horn. The electric current makes the electromagnet
inside the horn work, so that the diaphragm vibrates and produces
sound.
In many horn-related failures, when the problem occurs, it is often
the failure of the horn itself. In particular, the installation
position of the horn designed for some automobiles has defects, and
it is easy to get the horn wet by rain when it rains, causing
damage to the horn. When a fault occurs, you can refer to the
following steps to check.
Sometimes the horn switch is not sounded. If the horn sounds
sometimes and sometimes does not sound, it is mostly because the
contacts inside the horn switch are not in good contact, and some
are also the problem of the horn itself.
The hoarse sound is mostly due to poor contact of the plug,
especially the contacts around the steering wheel. Due to frequent
use, the contacts are easily worn out.
No sound at all. First check the fuse to see if it is blown, then
unplug the horn, use a multimeter to measure whether there is
electricity when pressing the horn switch. If there is no
electricity, check the horn harness and horn relay; if there is
electricity, it is the problem of the horn itself. At this time,
you can also try to adjust the adjustment nut on the horn to see if
it can sound. If it still does not sound, you need to replace the
horn.
