According to whether the on-site equipment has a PROFIBUS
interface, it can be divided into three forms
(1) Bus interface type: Field devices do not have a PROFIBUS
interface and use decentralized I/O as the bus interface to connect
to the current device. This form is easy to promote in the early
stages of applying fieldbus technology. If the on-site devices can
be grouped and the devices within the group are relatively
concentrated, this mode will better leverage the advantages of
fieldbus technology.
(2) Single overall line type: All on-site devices have a PROFIBUS
interface. This is an ideal situation. Fieldbus technology can be
used to achieve a fully distributed structure, fully benefiting
from the benefits of this technology. If a new project can meet
these conditions, currently, the equipment cost of this solution
will be higher.
(3) Hybrid: The field equipment part has a PROFIBUS interface. This
will be a quite common situation. At this point, the method of
combining PROFIBUS field equipment with decentralized I/O should be
adopted. Whether it is a renovation of old equipment or a new
project, there may not be many occasions where all field devices
with PROFIBUS interfaces are expected to be used. The decentralized
I/O can be used as a universal fieldbus interface, which is a
flexible integration solution.
2. Several structural types according to practical application
needs
According to actual needs and funding situation, there are usually
several types of structures as follows:
(1) Structure type 1: Using a PLC or controller as a primary
station without a monitoring station, but configuring a programming
device during the debugging phase. This type of structure, PLC or
controller completes bus communication management, slave data
reading and writing, and slave remote parameterization work.
(2) Structure type 2: Using a PLC or controller as a primary
station, the monitoring station is connected one-on-one to the PLC
through a serial port. This type of structure, the monitoring
station is not on the PROFIBUS network and is not a Class II master
station. It cannot directly read data from the slave station and
complete remote parameterization work. The slave data required for
the monitoring station can only be read from the PLC controller.
(3) Structure type 3: PLC or other controllers are used as the
primary master station, and the monitoring station (secondary
master station) is connected to the PROIBUS bus. This type of
structure allows the monitoring station to serve as a Class II
master station on the PROFIBUS network, capable of remote
programming, parameterization, and online monitoring functions.
