Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) crystal

Purpose

Develop blood fingerprints on light-colored surface. Applicable to both porous and non-porous materials.

Specifications

Working principle

The hemoglobin in the blood causes the hydrogen peroxide to release elemental oxygen, which oxygen oxidizes TMB to produce green-blue color, namely, the color of the developed prints.

Method

Dissolve TMB in a solvent such as ethanol, and then add hydrogen peroxide to prepare a working solution. Use a pair of tweezers to take the absorbent cotton, stick a small amount of working solution and gently wipe the blood fingerprint . In 30 seconds, the blood fingerprint turns green-blue and should be photographed and fixed immediately.

Development effect

The TMB development method is currently the most sensitive method for blood fingerprint development. And it’s applicable to both porous and non-porous materials.
