Spot welding electrode is an important part to ensure the quality of spot welding. Its main functions are: (1) conduct current to the workpiece; (2) transmit pressure to the workpiece; (3) quickly dissipate the heat in the welding zone.
Based on the above-mentioned functions of the electrode, it is
required that the electrode material should have sufficiently high
electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and high-temperature
hardness, and the structure of the electrode must have sufficient
strength and rigidity, as well as sufficient cooling conditions. In
addition, the contact resistance between the electrode and the
workpiece should be low enough to prevent the surface of the
workpiece from melting or alloying between the electrode and the
surface of the workpiece.
