The process of creating hot rolled coils involves continuously
rolling steel at temperatures above 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This
is done by passing metal sheets made from billets through rollers
above the temperature at which the metal (steel) recrystallizes.
Carbon steel coils are primarily used for manufacturing complex
shapes with high mechanical performance requirements, but it is
difficult to form the more important mechanical parts, like vehicle
couplings, gearbox housing, and locomotives, using forging and
pressing methods.
