Category 5 (CAT 5) cable is a type of twisted pair cable whose category is one of the grades of UTP cabling described in the EIA / TIA 568B standard which is used to run CDDI and can transmit data at speeds up to 100 Mbps at frequencies up to 100 MHz. Category 5 has been superseded by a new specification, Category 5e (enhanced).
