Product Description:



Outdoor disconnector switches are indeed used in high-voltage power transmission and distribution systems to disconnect circuits from their power sources for maintenance or repair purposes. They provide a means for isolating the circuit from the power supply, allowing workers to safely perform their tasks without the risk of electric shock.

The operation of an outdoor disconnector switch involves a rotating pole that controls the opening and closing of the switch's blade or contact. By rotating the pole, the blade can be engaged or disengaged, thereby connecting or disconnecting the circuit. This mechanism allows for a manual and visible indication of the switch's status.

To ensure operator safety, the pole of the disconnector switch is typically made of a non-conductive material, such as fiberglass or composite materials, which provides insulation against the high voltage present in the system. This insulation protects the operator from electric shock when operating the switch.

Outdoor disconnector switches are available in various designs and sizes to accommodate different voltage and current ratings of the circuits they control. They are commonly mounted on poles or structures in outdoor settings, where they can be easily accessed and operated. In conjunction with other protective devices like circuit breakers and fuses, disconnector switches contribute to the overall safety and reliability of the electrical system by providing a means of isolation and protection.


Operation:



1 Preparation: Before operating the switch, the circuit should be de-energized and properly grounded to prevent any electrical hazards. The switch should be inspected for any signs of damage or wear and tear.
2 Closing the switch: To close the switch, the operator manually or remotely moves the switch handle or control lever to the closed position. This connects the circuit to the power source, allowing current to flow through the circuit.
3 Opening the switch: To open the switch, the operator manually or remotely moves the switch handle or control lever to the open position. This disconnects the circuit from the power source, interrupting the flow of current.
4 Arc management: When the switch is opened, an electrical arc may occur between the contacts, which can be dangerous and cause damage to the switch. To manage the arc, the switch may be equipped with devices such as arc chutes or blowout coils.
5 Safety: Operators of high voltage disconnect switches must follow proper safety procedures to prevent electrical hazards. This may include wearing personal protective equipment, working in teams, and following lockout/tagout procedures.


Structure:



This product is composed of base (plate), post insulator, conductive part and interlock device. One end of the knife is installed on the dynamic contact knife head through bolts, and the other end of the knife is separately connected with the static contact head, and each side is maintained in a good contact state by the pressure of the compression spring. Each knife is slot-shaped type, which not only increases the heat dissipation surface of the knife, but also conducive to reducing the temperature rise, and improve the mechanical strength of the knife, making the dynamic thermal stability against short circuit. The interlocking parts installed at the non-rotating end of the contact knife and the static locking hook on the static contact constitute the opening locking device, which is self-locking when the brake is closed, so that the brake knife will not fall off by itself due to its own weight or the action of electric power, resulting in the opening of the brake without cause.


Relation:



The relation between the outdoor vacuum circuit breaker and the outdoor high-voltage disconnect isolator lies in their complementary roles in the electrical system:


1.Circuit Interruption: The vacuum circuit breaker is responsible for interrupting the electrical circuit during normal operation or in the event of a fault. It acts as the primary means of breaking the current flow. In contrast, the disconnect isolator is used for isolating the circuit from the power source during maintenance or repair activities. It provides an additional layer of safety by physically opening the circuit.

2.Coordination: In high-voltage power systems, the vacuum circuit breaker and the disconnect isolator are often coordinated to work together. The circuit breaker is responsible for detecting faults and tripping to interrupt the current flow, while the disconnect isolator is used to physically isolate the circuit and provide a visible indication of the disconnection.

3.Safety and Maintenance: The disconnect isolator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of maintenance personnel. Before any maintenance work can be performed on the electrical equipment, the disconnect isolator is operated to open the circuit and provide a visible air gap. This ensures that the equipment is de-energized and safe to work on. The vacuum circuit breaker, on the other hand, protects the system during normal operation and in the event of faults.
