TTO Printer Thermal Transfer Ribbons For Printing And Labeling On
Flexible Packaging
It is essential to choose the right type of TTR for your printing
application to ensure the best print quality and durability. The
TTRs are available in different widths, lengths, and colors, to
accommodate various printing needs.
Thermal Transfer Ribbons (TTRs) are essential components of Thermal
Transfer Overprinting (TTO) technology. TTO is a method of printing
variable information, such as text, barcodes, and graphics, onto
packaging materials, including flexible films and labels.
The TTR is a roll of ink-coated ribbon that is placed between the
print head and the substrate. When heat is applied to the print
head, it melts the ink on the ribbon, which transfers onto the
substrate, creating a permanent print.
There are three main types of TTRs used in TTO technology: wax,
wax/resin, and resin. The type of ribbon used depends on the
printing application and the substrate being printed on.
Wax Ribbons: Wax ribbons are the most commonly used TTRs and are
suitable for printing on paper and cardboard substrates. They offer
good print quality, at a low cost, and require low energy for
printing.
Wax/Resin Ribbons: Wax/resin ribbons are a blend of wax and resin,
making them more durable than wax ribbons, suitable for printing on
semi-gloss paper, synthetic paper, and polyethylene substrates.
They offer better resistance to smudging, scratching, and
chemicals.
Resin Ribbons: Resin ribbons are the most durable and expensive
TTRs, suitable for printing on polyester, vinyl, and polyimide
substrates. They offer excellent resistance to abrasion, heat,
chemicals, and UV exposure.
To achieve the best print quality, customers have to choose the
right type of ribbons to match both the TTO machines and your
packaging materials.
To avoid print problems happen, it is important to select a quality
ribbon from a legitimate and well-regarded supplier. Secondly, need
to ensure that the ribbon you are recommended is in fact best
suited to your application.
Cheaply constructed ribbons can cause printheads to wear out quickly due to lack of lubrication, or the film can burn as the material has a low heat resistance, or static charge can build up, or finally the ink transfer can be poor through weak thermal conduction.
All Welljets thermal transfer ribbons adopting top-coat and back-coat which relieved the problems.
This technology is to protect the printhead and extend printhead
life. It also helps in dissipating static charges (which can result
in damaged printheads and code degradation), while providing an
excellent thermal conductor for ink transfer.
During the running of TTO, print head will transfer the heat to ribbon to desquamate the ink of the ribbons.
The ribbon must withstand the heat of the print head and transfer the ink of the ribbon to the packaging material in the right position.
