Chile SEC Certification
Certification Introduction
Chile's Electrical and Combustibles Supervisory Commission
(Superintendencia de Electricidady Combustibles, SEC) is the
national agency in Chile that formulates electrical product
regulations. The Chilean national agency SEC (Superintendence of
Electricity and Combustible Fuels) controls electrical, gasoline,
and fuel products entering the Chilean market through safety and
energy efficiency regulations, and uses accredited laboratories and
certification agencies. Before the product is sold to the Chilean
market, it must pass one of the certification modes (there are many
certification modes, and the 1st, 2nd, and 6th certification modes
will be introduced below) to obtain an accreditation certificate,
SEC QR code (as follows) and energy efficiency certificate.

SEC Certification Basic Information
Certification Nature: Mandatory
Local Testing: Not Required
Local Representative: Required
Certificate Validity: Long-term
Certification Mark: Yes
Applicable Product Scope
Chile implements mandatory certification for some home appliances.
The product scope covered by Order No. 399 is detailed in the "List
of Compulsory Certification Electrical Products" published on the
website of the Electrical and Combustibles Supervisory Commission.
The "List of Compulsory Certification Electrical Products"
currently includes about 100 products. About 30 of them should be
tested using Chilean standards. The rest of the products are tested
and certified according to IEC standards. In principle, the SEC
directly adopts IEC standards or Chilean standards equivalent to
IEC. Chilean safety standards for electrical products (Chilean NCh
standards) are based on IEC standards; the certification system for
electronic products, such as consumer electronics,
telecommunications equipment and information technology equipment,
is still under development.

Certification types
Chile SEC has 6 schemes, and the following 3 are suitable for
domestic use:
Certification mode 1: including formal testing + subsequent
evaluation of each batch of goods
Mode 1 process: 1 Provide at least 3 samples for testing and obtain
the approval certificate and SEC QR code. After obtaining the
approval certificate, the SEC QR code must be affixed to the
product.
2 After the approval certificate is issued, the customer/applicant
must inform us of each batch of goods exported to Chile
3 We will take a certain number of samples according to the
quantity of goods after each batch arrives at the port and do the
necessary testing. Only products that pass the test can be put on
the market for sale
Certification Mode 2: Including formal test + factory inspection +
semi-annual product evaluation test + semi-annual market spot check
Mode 2 process:
1 Provide at least 3 samples for testing and obtain the approval
certificate and SEC QR code. After obtaining the approval
certificate, the SEC QR code must be affixed to the product.
2 After the approval certificate is issued, sampling tests will be
conducted from the market once every six months (the Chilean
laboratory agency will conduct sampling tests in Chile), and
sampling tests will be conducted from the factory once every six
months.
3 Conduct annual factory inspections once a year (the certificate
is valid for a long time as long as the factory inspection and
sampling are accepted)
Certification Mode 6: Recognition of foreign certification +
supervision testing of each batch of goods
Mode 6 process:
1 Importers must first submit the certification certificates that
the product has obtained (such as GS VDE TUV mark UL, etc.) to the
Chilean SEC!
Please note that the recognized foreign certification must be
issued by a foreign certification agency recognized by IAF members
or signatory countries, and the certificate can be found on the
website of the issuing agency.
2 The importer will notify us of the arrival of the imported goods,
and we will arrange sampling and simplified testing and obtain the
approval certificate.
