Introduction to VOC testing
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are an important factor affecting
the air quality in cars. VOCs mainly include alkanes, alkenes,
aromatics, aldehydes or ketones, etc., which have a special pungent
smell, and some have been classified as carcinogens, such as vinyl
chloride, benzene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, etc. Some VOCs
also damage the ozone layer. role, such as chlorofluorocarbons and
hydrochlorofluorocarbons.
Nowadays, cars have entered thousands of households, and the
problem of air pollution inside cars has become a common concern
among consumers. Automobile associations and related agencies in
various countries have formulated in-car air standards and
requirements in order to control the air quality in the car.
World-renowned car companies have also formulated their own
corporate standards to control the air quality in their cars.
VOC sources and hazards
Most of the VOCs in the car come from the paint after the interior
paint. In order to reduce the health hazards caused by material
VOCs to the human body, my country has vigorously developed
environmentally friendly coating products in recent years. On
January 26, 2015, it began to regulate coatings and other products
in production. Consumption tax is levied on entrusted processing
and import links. Only coatings with a VOC content of less than 420
g/L (inclusive) under construction are exempt from consumption tax.
When the VOC concentration is too high, it is easy to cause acute
poisoning. In mild cases, it may cause headache, dizziness, cough,
nausea, and vomiting; in severe cases, convulsions may occur, and
it may damage the human liver, kidneys, brain, and nervous system.
Medical research has proven that pregnant women living under the
influence of VOC environment have a much higher probability of
fetal malformation than ordinary people, and may have an impact on
the child's future intellectual development.

VOC regulatory requirements
On March 1, 2008, the industry standard "HJ/T 400-2007 Sampling and
Determination Methods for Volatile Organic Compounds and Aldehydes
and Ketones in Vehicles" led by the State Environmental Protection
Administration was implemented; in 2011, the Ministry of
Environmental Protection and the General Administration of Quality
Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine jointly The standard "GB/T
27630-2011 Passenger Car Interior Air Quality Evaluation Guide" was
released and officially implemented on March 1, 2012.
GB/T 27630-2011 is the release of the standard for the air quality
in passenger cars, which fills the gap of long-term lack of
standards for air quality in passenger cars and finally makes the
air quality in passenger cars on the market legally amenable. The
standards are mainly applicable to newly produced cars for sale,
and vehicles in use can also be used as a reference.
