Connector Testing & Certification; What is Connector Testing & Certification ?
Connector testing and certification
basic introduction
Definition of connector: CONNECTOR. Also known as connectors, plugs
and sockets in China. Generally refers to electrical connectors.
That is, a device that connects two active devices to transmit
current or signals.
Basic performance
The basic performance of connectors can be divided into three major
categories:
1. Mechanical properties
2. Electrical performance
3. Environmental performance
Common tests and reference standards
Appearance size test
Reference standard: EIA-364-18
Purpose:
1. Check the appearance of the sample to see if there are any
abnormalities that will affect product performance or affect
product test results.
2. Check whether product specifications and dimensions comply with
product requirements and relevant standards or association
specifications.
Insertion and extraction force test
Reference standard: EIA-364-13
Purpose: To verify whether the connector's insertion and extraction
force meets the product specifications.
Principle: Completely insert or pull out the connector at the
specified rate, and record the corresponding force value.
Durability test
Reference standard: EIA-364-09
Purpose: To evaluate the impact of repeated plugging and unplugging
on the connector, and to simulate the plugging and unplugging
conditions of the connector in actual use.
Principle: Continuously plug and unplug the connector at a
specified rate until the specified number of times is reached.
Insulation resistance test
Reference standard: EIA-364-21
Purpose: To verify whether the insulation performance of the
connector meets the requirements of the circuit design or whether
its resistance meets the relevant technical conditions when it is
subjected to high temperature, humidity and other environmental
stresses.
Principle: Applying voltage to the insulating part of the connector
causes leakage current to occur on or within the insulating part,
resulting in a resistance value.
Withstand voltage test
Reference standard: EIA-364-20
Purpose: To verify whether the connector can work safely at the
rated voltage and whether it can withstand over-potential, so as to
evaluate whether the connector insulation material or insulation
gap is suitable. Principle: Between the connector contacts and the
contacts, the contacts and Apply the specified voltage between the
shells and maintain it for the specified time, and observe whether
there is breakdown or discharge in the sample.
Contact resistance test
Reference standards: EIA-364-06/EIA-364-23
Purpose: To verify the resistance value generated when current
flows through the contact surface of the contact. Principle: By
passing a specified current through the connector, the voltage drop
at both ends of the connector is measured to obtain the resistance
value.
Vibration test:
Reference standard: EIA-364-28
Purpose: To verify the impact of vibration on the performance of
electrical connectors and their components
Vibration type: random vibration, sinusoidal vibration
Mechanical impact test
Reference standard: EIA-364-27
Purpose: To verify the impact resistance of the connector and its
components or to evaluate whether its structure is solid
Test waveform: half sine wave, square wave
Hot and cold shock test
Reference standard: EIA-364-32
Purpose: To evaluate the impact of connectors on their functional
quality under rapid and large temperature changes.
Temperature and humidity combined cycle test
Reference standard: EIA-364-31
Purpose: To evaluate the impact on connector performance after
storage in high temperature and high humidity environments
High temperature test
Reference standard: EIA-364-17
Purpose: To evaluate whether the performance of the terminals and
insulators of the connector changes after being exposed to a high
temperature environment for a specified period of time.
Salt spray test
Reference standard: EIA-364-26
Purpose: To evaluate the salt spray corrosion resistance of
connectors, terminals, and coatings
Mixed gas corrosion test
Reference standard: EIA-364-65
Purpose: To evaluate the corrosion resistance of connectors exposed
to mixed gases of different concentrations and the impact on their
performance
Wire swing test
Reference standard: EIA-364-41
Purpose: To evaluate the connector's ability to withstand repeated
back and forth stress and to evaluate electrical continuity during
this process
Temperature rise test
Reference standard: EIA-364-70
Purpose: To evaluate whether the temperature rise of the terminal
exceeds the specified value when the terminal carries rated
current.
