Function
Travel drive/winch counterbalance valves are designed to reduce the
danger of overspeeding and cavitation of axial piston motors in
open circuits. Cavitation occurs if the motor speed is greater than
it should be for the given input flow while braking, travelling
downhill, or lowering a load.
If the inlet pressure drops, the counterbalance spool throttles the
return flow and brakes the motor until the inlet pressure returns
to approx. 20 bar.
