A Bopp Jumbo Roll is a large, master roll of Biaxially Oriented
Polypropylene (BOPP) film. It is the primary form in which BOPP film is produced and sold by
manufacturers to converters. These rolls are "jumbo" because they are enormous in both width
(can be over 4 meters / 13 feet) and length (can be tens of
kilometers long). Converters then use slitting and rewinding machines to cut these
jumbo rolls down into smaller, customer-specific rolls for use in
various packaging and printing industries.
Key Characteristics of BOPP Film
The properties of the film itself make it incredibly popular:
1.Clarity and Gloss: BOPP film offers excellent optical clarity and
a high-gloss finish, making products look attractive on shelves. It can also be made opaque or matte.
2.Strength: The biaxial orientation process stretches the film in
both machine and transverse directions, significantly increasing
its tensile strength, durability, and puncture resistance.
3.Moisture Barrier: It provides an excellent barrier against
moisture and water vapor, protecting products from humidity and
drying out.
4.Chemical Resistance: Resistant to most oils, greases, and
solvents.
5.Lightweight and Cost-Effective: Offers a high
strength-to-thickness ratio, meaning less material is needed for
strong packaging, reducing costs.
6.Printable and Coatable: The surface can be easily treated (e.g.,
corona treatment) to accept high-quality inks, adhesives, and
coatings. It is often coated with materials like acrylic or PVDC for enhanced
sealing and gas barrier properties.
7.Dimensional Stability: Resists shrinking and stretching under
varying temperatures and humidity levels.
