Working Principle of Carbonless Paper

NCR paper, or carbonless copy paper, functions through a micro-encapsulated dye system layered on the back (CB) and front (CF) surfaces of the paper.
When pressure is applied—either from a writing tool or a mechanical printer—the capsules in the CB layer burst and chemically interact with the CF layer beneath, forming a visible image on the top of the next sheet.

Unlike traditional carbon paper, the print appears only on the coated front, and the back remains clean. This clean, dry, and accurate copy process is what makes carbonless paper a modern essential in multi-part documentation.
