EMS Circuit Board Assembly


EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) circuit board assembly involves the process of assembling electronic components onto a printed circuit board (PCB) to create a functional electronic device. This process typically includes the following steps:

Component Procurement: EMS providers source the required electronic components from suppliers based on the bill of materials (BOM) provided by the client.

PCB Fabrication: The PCB is manufactured according to the design specifications provided by the client. This involves etching copper traces, drilling holes, and applying solder mask and silkscreen.

Solder Paste Application: Solder paste is applied to the PCB using a stencil, which defines the areas where components will be placed.

Pick and Place: Automated pick and place machines accurately position surface-mount components onto the PCB using vision systems for alignment.

Reflow Soldering: The PCB with components and solder paste is passed through a reflow oven, where the solder paste is melted to create electrical connections between the components and the PCB.

Through-Hole Component Assembly: If through-hole components are used, they are manually or automatically inserted into the PCB and soldered using wave soldering or selective soldering machines.

Inspection and Testing: Automated optical inspection (AOI) and in-circuit testing (ICT) are performed to ensure the quality and functionality of the assembled PCB.

Final Assembly: Additional processes such as conformal coating, potting, and mechanical assembly may be performed depending on the specific requirements of the electronic device.

Packaging and Shipping: The assembled PCBs are packaged according to the client’s specifications and shipped to the designated location.

The components will be mounted on the circuit board through SMT mounter, and online AOI automatic optical detection will be carried out if necessary. After testing, the perfect reflow furnace temperature curve is set to let the circuit board flow through reflow welding.


After the necessary IPQC inspection, the DIP material can then be passed through the circuit board using the DIP process and then through wave soldering. Then it is time to carry out the necessary post-furnace process.

1,The process of DIP processing is: putting in the hole →AOI→ wave soldering → cutting pin →AOI→ correction → washing → quality inspection.
