Longitudinal Finned Tubes ASTM A179 Heat Exchanger Tubes With Carbon Steel Fins


Definition


Longitudinal finned tubes are produced by resistance welding fins along the long direction of the tube. The fins first form a U-shaped channel so that each leg of the U-shape forms a fin. The channel is cut to the appropriate length, then oriented along the length of the tube and resistance welded in place. The channels are pairs of soldered, diametrically opposed, so the number of fins specified must be a multiple of four.

Detailes of ASTM A179 Base Tubes


This specification covers minimum-wall-thickness, seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer apparatus.This specification covers tubes 1⁄8 to 3 in. [3.2 to 76.2 mm], inclusive, in outside diameter.


Manufacture: tubes shall be made by the seamless process and shall be cold drawn.


Heat treatment:tubes shall be heat treated after the final cold draw pass at a temperature of 1200°F [650°C] or higher.


Surface Condition: finished tubes shall be free of scale. A slight amount of oxidation will not be considered as scale.


Tests: Flattening Test, Flaring Test, Flange Test, Hardness Test, Hydrostatic Test
