Why Choose Our 3D Composite Drainage Geonet?
1. Foundation and Subbase Drainage:
The 3D Composite Drainage Geonet is installed between the
foundation and subbase to effectively drain accumulated water,
block capillary water, and integrate seamlessly with edge drainage
systems. This innovative structure significantly shortens the
drainage path within the foundation, drastically reducing drainage
time. Additionally, it allows for the use of less permeable,
finer-grained materials in the foundation, optimizing material
selection and reducing costs. By enhancing drainage efficiency,
this solution extends the lifespan of roadways and other
structures.
2. Subbase Stabilization and Isolation:
When laid within the subbase, the 3D Composite Drainage Geonet
prevents fine particles from migrating into the foundation layer,
effectively acting as a separator. The aggregate subbase partially
embeds into the upper layer of the geonet, which also helps
restrict lateral movement of the subbase materials. This dual
functionality mimics the reinforcement properties of geogrids,
enhancing the structural integrity of the foundation. With superior
tensile strength and rigidity compared to many geogrids, the 3D
Composite Drainage Geonet significantly improves the load-bearing
capacity of the foundation.
3. Pavement Preservation and Moisture Management:
As roads age and develop cracks, rainwater can infiltrate the
structure, leading to further deterioration. By installing the 3D
Composite Drainage Geonet directly beneath the pavement surface, it
serves as a replacement for traditional drainable bases. The geonet
collects moisture before it reaches the foundation or subbase, and
an optional membrane layer at the bottom can further prevent water
infiltration. For rigid pavement systems, this design allows for
higher drainage coefficients (Cd), optimizing road performance.
Additionally, this structure promotes more uniform hydration of
concrete, potentially enhancing its durability (ongoing research is
exploring this benefit further). Whether used in rigid or flexible
pavement systems, the 3D Composite Drainage Geonet significantly
extends the service life of roadways.
4. Frost Heave Mitigation in Cold Climates:
In regions with freezing temperatures, the 3D Composite Drainage
Geonet helps mitigate the effects of frost heave. When frost
penetration is deep, the geonet can be installed at a shallower
depth within the subbase to act as a capillary barrier. It is often
paired with a non-frost-susceptible granular subbase that extends
to the frost line. Frost-susceptible backfill can be placed
directly above the geonet, up to the foundation level. This system
can be connected to drainage outlets to maintain the groundwater
level at or below the frost depth, effectively limiting the
formation of ice lenses. As a result, traffic load restrictions
during spring thaw can be minimized, ensuring year-round usability
in cold climates.
Seaming and Overlapping of 3D Composite Drainage Geonet?
1.Orientation Adjustment:
Adjust the orientation of the geosynthetic material so that the
length of the roll is perpendicular to the road.
2.End-to-End Connection:
The composite drainage geonet must be connected end-to-end. The
geotextile on adjacent geonet cores should overlap along the roll.
3.Securing the Rolls:
Connect adjacent rolls of the geonet core using white or yellow
plastic clips or polymer straps. Secure the rolls with straps at
intervals of 3 feet (approximately 1 meter) along the length of the
roll.
4.Overlapping Geotextile Direction:
The direction of the overlapping geotextile should align with the
direction of the fill placement. If the geosynthetic material is
installed between the foundation/subgrade and the subbase, the
overlapping geotextile should be fixed using continuous wedge
welding, flat welding, or sewing. If sewing is used, a flat seam or
standard seam method is recommended to meet the required stitch
length.
