Advantages of galvanized sheet solar street light:
1. Cost advantage: lower material and manufacturing threshold
(1) The cost of raw materials is significantly reduced
The raw material price of galvanized sheet (hot-dip galvanized
steel sheet) is usually 30%-50% lower than that of aluminum alloy.
Taking Q235 galvanized sheet as an example, the price per ton is
about 4000-6000 yuan, while the price of 6063 aluminum alloy
profile per ton can reach 18,000-25,000 yuan, the cost gap is
directly reflected in the price of the end product, and the overall
price of galvanized sheet street lamps can be reduced by 20%-40%,
which is more suitable for municipal projects with limited budgets
or markets in developing countries.
(2) The processing technology is simple, and the mass production
cost is controllable
Galvanized sheet can be formed by traditional processes such as
stamping and welding, with low equipment input cost and high
production efficiency (for example, the average daily production
capacity of the assembly line can reach 2-3 times that of aluminum
alloy). Aluminum alloys, on the other hand, require extrusion or
die-casting processes, which have high tooling costs (5-10 times
that of galvanized sheets for a single set of molds) and are
difficult to process complex structural parts, resulting in a surge
in costs for low-volume production.
2. Structural strength: more suitable for heavy loads and harsh
environments
(1) Stronger impact resistance and wind load resistance
The tensile strength of galvanized sheet (375-500MPa) is higher
than that of most aluminum alloy profiles (6063 aluminum alloy
tensile strength is about 190MPa), especially suitable for coastal
typhoon areas or windy and sandy areas. For example, a 1.5mm thick
galvanized sheet light pole can withstand a wind speed of 40m/s (a
14-level typhoon), while an aluminum alloy pole of the same
thickness needs to be increased to more than 2.5mm to achieve the
same strength, resulting in an increase in cost.
(2) Outstanding vibration resistance and deformation resistance
In areas with frequent traffic or geological instability (such as
next to highways and railways), the rigid structure of galvanized
sheet street lamps is less prone to loose connectors or bending of
rods due to long-term vibration, while aluminum alloy has a low
elastic modulus (about 70GPa, 210GPa for galvanized steel), and
long-term vibration may lead to wear of bolt holes and affect
stability.
3. Corrosion resistance: a long-term advantage in specific
scenarios
(1) Electrochemical protection characteristics of hot-dip
galvanized layer
The zinc layer (thickness ≥ 85 μm) on the surface of the galvanized
sheet preferentially oxidizes in a humid environment to form a
protective layer of zinc oxide, which prevents rusting of the steel
sheet through the principle of "sacrificial anode" even if the
coating is partially damaged. For example, galvanized sheet street
lamps can last up to 15-20 years in industrial contaminated areas
or coastal high salt spray environments, while untreated aluminium
street lamps may have surface chalking within 5-8 years due to
galvanic corrosion (reaction of aluminium alloys with chloride ions
in the air).
(2) Lower maintenance costs
After the galvanized layer is damaged, it can be repaired by
repainting zinc paint, which is about 1/3 of the cost of aluminum
alloy surface treatment (such as anodizing repair). However, if the
oxide film of the aluminum alloy is damaged, it needs to be
re-anodized as a whole, which is expensive and complicated.
4. Recycling and environmental protection characteristics
(1) Higher metal recovery
The steel of galvanized sheet can be 100% recycled and remelted,
and the energy consumption of the recycling process is only 1/5 of
that of aluminum alloy (about 2.5MJ/kg for steel recycling and
12MJ/kg for aluminum alloy). For the environmentally conscious
European and American markets, galvanized sheet street lamps are
more likely to pass ISO 14001 certification and meet green
procurement standards.
(2) The cost of disposal is lower
The anodized film or spray coating on the surface of the aluminum
alloy may release harmful gases during incineration, while the zinc
layer combustion product of galvanized sheet is zinc oxide, which
is less toxic and more in line with the requirements of
environmental protection regulations.
