Advantages of Steel - Structure Buildings
1. High Strength and Light Weight
Steel has a high strength - to - weight ratio. Compared with
traditional building materials such as concrete, steel can bear a
large amount of load with a relatively small cross - sectional
area. This property allows steel - structure buildings to cover
large spans without the need for excessive internal support
columns. For example, in large - scale industrial plants and
exhibition halls, steel structures can create vast open spaces,
which is very suitable for the layout of production lines or the
display of exhibits. At the same time, the light weight of steel
reduces the overall load on the foundation, which can save the cost
of foundation construction, especially in areas with poor soil
conditions.
2. Good Ductility
Steel has excellent ductility, which means it can undergo large
plastic deformation before failure. In seismic - prone areas, this
characteristic is extremely important. When an earthquake occurs,
the steel structure can absorb and dissipate seismic energy through
plastic deformation, reducing the damage to the building. For
instance, many high - rise buildings in earthquake - prone regions
are designed with steel structures to ensure the safety of the
building and its occupants during an earthquake.
3. Short Construction Period
Steel - structure components are usually pre - fabricated in the
factory. The standardized production in the factory environment
ensures high - quality and high - precision manufacturing. Once the
components are transported to the construction site, they can be
quickly assembled, which significantly shortens the construction
period compared with traditional on - site construction methods.
For commercial projects, a shorter construction period means
earlier occupancy and faster return on investment. For example, a
small - scale steel - structure office building can be completed in
a few months, while a similar building using traditional
construction methods may take a year or more.
4. Recyclability
Steel is a highly recyclable material. At the end of the service
life of a steel - structure building, most of the steel components
can be recycled and reused, which is in line with the concept of
sustainable development. Recycling steel not only reduces the
consumption of natural resources but also decreases the
environmental impact associated with the production of new steel.
For example, recycled steel can be used to manufacture new steel
products, reducing the energy consumption and pollution generated
during the primary steel - making process.
5. Design Flexibility
Steel structures offer great design flexibility. They can be easily
fabricated into various shapes and sizes, allowing architects to
realize a wide range of creative design concepts. Whether it is a
complex curved surface building or a unique geometric - shaped
structure, steel can meet the design requirements. For example, the
Sydney Opera House, although not a pure steel - structure building,
uses steel in some of its key components, which helps to achieve
its iconic and complex shell - like shape.
RIDGE Project
Rwanda Warehouse :Rwanda marigold drying machine warehouse project is a steel building complex with 1 big workshop and 1 office. This project requires professional design and architectual capabilities, quality products and one-stop project management services. Quanzhou Ridge Steel Structure company has successfully fullfilled the duty to help our client to design, manufacture and erect the whole buildings.
Rwanda project is with the total area up to 1360sqm with the 6m span, the highest eave height being 12.3m and ridge height being 13.18m. The steel amount is 80.63 ton and the feature of this building is different heights.
Project Case: 18×36m Open-Front Steel Shed in Spain
Project Overview:
This project involved the design, fabrication, and supply of a
customized open-front steel shed (Dimensions: 18m width × 36m depth
× 4m height) for a client in Spain. The structure features
three-sided cladding (with one 36m side fully open) and a complete
roofing system, ideal for industrial storage, logistics, or
workshop use.
| Category | Specifications | Purpose/Advantage |
| Main Structure | Q355B H-Beams (fabricated, cut, assembled, rectified) | High-strength frame for structural integrity and load-bearing capacity. |
| Surface Treatment | Shotblasted to SA 2.5 grade; primer: red-lead paint, topcoat: mild-grey paint | Superior corrosion resistance, suitable for industrial environments. |
| Cladding | Roof & Wall: 0.5mm single metal sheets; Galvanized C180×2.0mm purlins | Lightweight yet durable; galvanized purlins prevent rust and extend lifespan. |
| Design | Open-front (36m side) + three-sided walls | Optimal accessibility for vehicles/machinery and natural ventilation. |
| Fasteners | M20 (10.9S) high-strength bolts; M24×850mm anchor bolts; M12/M16 bolts | Secure connections; anchor bolts provide stability against wind/uplift forces. |
| Accessories | Φ12 tied rods, ridge caps, gutters, Φ110 downpipes, screws, rivets, silicone | Complete weatherproofing and drainage solution; ensures structural rigidity. |
Installation Process Explained
Our steel structure building installation follows a standardized
and efficient 12-step process:
1-2 Foundation
Prepare the concrete base according to the structural load
requirements and install the pre-embedded anchor bolts as per the
foundation construction drawings.
3-4 Columns
Erect the steel columns using a truck crane, with one worker
guiding and 3-4 workers assisting. Secure each column onto the
anchor bolts and add temporary bracing.
5 Roof Beams
After two adjacent steel columns are installed, begin installing
the main roof beams to connect and stabilize the structure.
6-7 Purlins
Install roof and wall purlins after completing the column and beam
installation. Bolt them securely onto the main structure to support
cladding panels.
8 Purlin Rods
Reinforce the frame by installing horizontal tie rods between
purlins for added stability.
9 Water Gutter
Install the gutter system along the eaves to ensure proper drainage
and prevent water accumulation.
10-11 Cladding
Attach wall sheets to wall purlins with self-tapping screws, then
install roof sheets. For insulated buildings, fix sandwich panels
to both walls and roof.
12 Completion
Install covers at corners, eaves, windows, and doors; fit windows
and doors in place; conduct a final inspection - your steel
building is ready for use.
