There are three main types of motorcycle bulbs: halogen lamps,
xenon lamps and LED lamps. The following is a detailed description
of them:
Halogen bulbs
Working principle: Halogen substances are injected into the bulb,
and the tungsten filament is heated by electric current to emit
light. During the light-emitting process, the tungsten filament
heats up and sublimates, and the halogen substance can react
chemically with the sublimated tungsten, so that the tungsten
returns to the tungsten filament, thereby extending the service
life of the tungsten filament.
Features
Advantages: Cheap price, easy to obtain accessories; Strong
penetrating power, can illuminate the road well in rainy and foggy
weather, and automobile fog lights also often use bulbs of this
color temperature; It is relatively easy to pass during the annual
vehicle inspection.
Disadvantages: The brightness is relatively low, and the lighting
effect may not be good in places without street lights or dim
light; The heat generation is large, and long-term use will
increase the temperature of the lamp holder and lampshade; The
service life is short, generally only about 600 hours; The light
emitted is yellowish, not bright and eye-catching enough.
Applicable scenarios: Suitable for daily riding in environments
with good lighting conditions such as urban areas, and motorcycle
users who do not have particularly high requirements for light
brightness.
Xenon bulb
Working principle: The 12-volt power supply on the vehicle is
instantly increased to 23,000 volts through a supercharger. In the
UV-resistant crystal quartz glass tube, high-voltage pulse
electricity is applied to the metal electrode filled with xenon and
other substances, which stimulates its ionization to produce bright
light.
Features
Advantages: Very high brightness, the brightness of a 35W xenon
bulb can reach 3.5 times that of a 55W halogen bulb, the
illumination distance is far, and it can provide a wider field of
view; the service life is 8-10 times longer than that of a halogen
lamp, about 2,000 hours; the efficiency of converting electrical
energy into light energy is high, and it has a high energy density
and light intensity.
Disadvantages: extremely high heat generation, after lighting for
20 minutes, the temperature can reach 300-400 degrees, which can
easily burn the yellow lamp bowl or even the lamp holder; the price
is higher than halogen bulbs; very power-consuming, which can
easily cause the battery to run out of power; slow startup, 5-15
seconds of delay to reach the highest brightness; need to install a
ballast, and the modification takes up more space; during the
annual vehicle inspection, there is a high probability that it will
not pass.
Applicable scenarios: suitable for motorcycle users who often ride
at night or drive on dark roads, such as long-distance motorcycle
travel enthusiasts, but they need to pay attention to related
issues of installation and use.
LED bulb
Working principle: using the characteristics of light-emitting
diodes, when current acts on the chip through the wire, electrons
are pushed to the P area, where electrons and holes recombine, and
then emit energy in the form of photons, thereby realizing the
conversion of electrical energy to visible light.
Features
Advantages: extremely low heat generation, less heat dissipation
pressure compared to halogen lamps and xenon lamps; high
brightness, not much different from xenon headlights; very little
power consumption, only one twentieth of halogen lamps, less damage
to batteries; ultra-long life, up to 100,000 hours; fast response
speed, can be lit instantly after power on; wide range of use, can
be used for driving lights, turn signals, brake lights, headlights
and other lamps.
Disadvantages: relatively high price; high heat dissipation
requirements, if the heat dissipation is poor, excessive
temperature can easily shorten its life; some LED bulbs have
astigmatism problems, need to pay attention to the design and
adjustment of lamps, or choose products with good focusing effect.
Applicable scenarios: suitable for motorcycle users who pursue high
brightness, energy saving and long life, especially suitable for
urban commuting and short-distance riding, and gradually become the
preferred light source for many motorcycle manufacturers.
