The pastor knew that his church's aging facilities and rapidly growing congregation could not meet its needs.But he wondered if there was an aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective solution to the problem.

When he considered building a new house of worship, he was shocked at the initial cost.He wanted to have the kind of beautiful facility that his congregants had enjoyed before.The price just couldn't be what he was quoted.

Today, First Baptist has a new church that matches the wooden exterior of the original church building, but with the cost-effective, easy-to-build convenience of steel.

The timber-framed building on the entrance side houses the entrance foyer, classrooms, two nurseries and toilets.Visually, it looks great and was surprisingly easy to build.After eight months of searching for the right company to build the church, materials for the 24,000 square foot building arrived on schedule on New Year's Day.

Constructing this building was a real challenge.The winter of 2004 was one of the harshest in recent years.Because of the snow, his team of six had to come up with some way to insulate the church.It seemed like it snowed every day last winter.Many days we'd go out and there'd be a foot of snow on the floorboards.We decided to put the roof on first and then install the insulation.But once the roof is covered, we can install insulation without causing any water damage.

Soundproofing has proved to be one of the greatest benefits of new churches.The church features a 54-foot wide stage for musical performances.

Surprisingly for a steel-framed building, the soundproofing has been well received by Walton and other parishioners.

Soundproofing materials provide excellent sound quality because sound is not reflected all over the walls.But better yet, it keeps us warm in the winter and cool in the summer.The new church was completed in the first week of April.So far, so good.Although the building is large, the environment is very warm.
