Analysis of Production Process, Product Characteristics and
Application Scope of C-Section Steel Roll-Formed from Galvanized
Steel Strip
I. Production Process: Refined Control Throughout the Cold
Roll-Forming Process
C-section steel roll-formed from galvanized steel strip uses
galvanized steel strip as the base material and is produced through
four core links: "base material pretreatment - cold roll-forming -
precision calibration - finished product cutting". The technical
key points and control standards of each link are as follows:
Base Material Pretreatment Link
Hot-dip galvanized steel strips (or zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated
steel strips) with a zinc content of ≥120g/㎡ are selected. First,
the coiled steel strips are flattened by a leveler, and surface
dust and zinc dross are cleaned synchronously with a brush; if the
steel strips have slight warping, they need to undergo roller
straightening via a straightener (straightening accuracy ≤0.5mm/m)
to ensure the flatness of the base material meets the subsequent
forming requirements and avoid C-section steel cross-sectional
deviation caused by uneven base material.
Cold Roll-Forming Link
A multi-pass progressive cold roll-forming machine (usually 8-12
passes) is used to gradually form the steel strips according to the
preset C-section steel cross-sectional parameters (e.g., height
50-300mm, flange width 20-100mm): The first pass of rollers
positions the center line of the base material; in subsequent
passes, the web, flange, and curled edge are sequentially bent and
formed by adjusting the roller spacing and angle. The deformation
amount of each pass is controlled at 5%-10% to avoid galvanized
layer cracking caused by excessive single-pass deformation; during
the forming process, the roller temperature is monitored in
real-time (≤60℃) to prevent high temperature from damaging the
adhesion of the galvanized layer.
Precision Calibration Link
The formed C-section steel enters the online detection system. The
cross-sectional dimensions are detected by a laser diameter gauge
(e.g., web thickness deviation ≤±0.1mm, flange perpendicularity
deviation ≤1°). If the dimensions exceed the tolerance range, the
system automatically feeds back to the cold roll-forming machine to
adjust the roller parameters; at the same time, a flatness detector
is used to check the straightness of the steel section (deviation
≤2mm per meter), and local bent parts are corrected twice via
straightening rollers to ensure the finished product precision
meets the installation requirements of construction, machinery and
other fields.
Finished Product Cutting Link
According to the customer's order requirements, a CNC flying saw is
used for fixed-length cutting (cutting length deviation ≤±1mm).
During cutting, deburring treatment is performed synchronously
(edge burr height ≤0.1mm) to avoid scratching operators or seals
during installation; if the customer needs reserved installation
holes, hole positions can be processed by a CNC punching machine
before cutting (hole diameter deviation ≤±0.2mm, hole spacing
deviation ≤±0.5mm), realizing integrated production of "forming -
punching - cutting" and improving delivery efficiency.
II. Product Characteristics: Core Competitiveness Derived from
Process Advantages
The characteristics of C-section steel roll-formed from galvanized
steel strip directly come from the production process and base
material advantages, mainly reflected in three dimensions:
corrosion resistance, structure, and customization:
Strong Corrosion Resistance and Durability
The galvanized layer (or zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating) of the
base material forms a dense passivation film, which can effectively
isolate air, moisture, and corrosive media. Its service life can
reach 15-20 years in ordinary atmospheric environments; if used in
highly corrosive environments such as coastal areas and chemical
industries, an additional epoxy zinc-rich primer (thickness ≥60μm)
can be sprayed, increasing the salt spray resistance to more than
1000 hours, which is far longer than the service life of ordinary
cold-rolled C-section steel (without galvanized layer) of 3-5
years.
High Structural Stability
Multi-pass cold roll-forming makes the mechanical properties of the
steel section cross-section more uniform. The transition fillet
between the web and flange (usually R=1.5-3mm) reduces stress
concentration, and the flexural strength is 15%-20% higher than
that of welded C-section steel of the same specification; at the
same time, the galvanized layer is closely combined with the base
material and not easy to fall off during cold roll-forming,
ensuring structural integrity during long-term use and making it
suitable for scenarios bearing dynamic loads (e.g., machinery
frames, vehicle side beams).
High Customization Adaptability
It can be customized in cross-sectional dimensions (height
50-300mm, thickness 0.8-4.0mm), length (1-12m), and hole layout
according to customer needs to adapt to different installation
scenarios; for example, C-section steel for photovoltaic brackets
can be customized with a "narrow flange + dense hole positions"
design (flange width 30mm, hole spacing 100mm) to facilitate quick
connection with photovoltaic modules; C-section steel for machinery
frames can be customized with a "thick web + reinforced curled
edge" design (web thickness 3.0mm, curled edge height 15mm) to
improve load-bearing capacity.
Lightweight and Easy Installation
Compared with hot-rolled steel sections with the same load-bearing
capacity, the weight of C-section steel roll-formed from galvanized
steel strip is reduced by 20%-30% (e.g., for the specification of
100×50×2.0mm, the weight per meter is about 4.8kg), and the
transportation cost is reduced by more than 15%; in addition, the
finished product has a flat surface without welding scars, no
additional treatment is required during installation, and it can be
directly connected via bolts. A single worker can install 30-50
meters per day, greatly improving construction efficiency.
III. Application and Scope: Covering Multi-Field Scenario Needs
Based on the above characteristics, C-section steel roll-formed
from galvanized steel strip is widely used in four fields:
construction, new energy, machinery, and transportation. The
specific scenarios and application advantages are as follows:
Construction Field
- Roof and Wall Purlins: Suitable for factories and logistics warehouses with a span of
6-12m, connected to steel roof trusses via bolts. The weather
resistance of the galvanized layer can cope with roof rain erosion,
reducing subsequent anti-corrosion maintenance costs.
- Light Steel Villa Support Components: Used for floor load-bearing beams and wall keels. The lightweight
characteristic reduces the overall weight of the building, and the
high structural stability ensures the wind and earthquake
resistance of the house (able to withstand winds below level 8 and
earthquakes below magnitude 6).
- Temporary Building Frames: Such as construction temporary buildings and prefabricated houses,
which can be quickly assembled and disassembled for reuse. The
galvanized layer prevents rust during short-term use, reducing the
investment cost of temporary buildings.
New Energy Field
- Main Beams/Secondary Beams of Photovoltaic Brackets: Suitable for ground and roof photovoltaic power stations.
Customized hole positions facilitate adjusting the inclination
angle of photovoltaic modules (0°-45°). The strong corrosion
resistance can cope with outdoor high-temperature, rain, and snow
environments, ensuring the stable operation of the bracket system
for more than 10 years.
- Internal Supports of Wind Turbine Towers: Used for fixing cables and maintenance platforms. The high
structural stability can bear the vibration load of the tower, and
the galvanized layer prevents rust caused by humid air inside the
tower.
Machinery Field
- Equipment Frames: Such as automated production line racks and CNC machine tool
covers. The customized cross-section can adapt to the layout of
internal parts of the equipment. The lightweight characteristic
facilitates equipment transportation and installation, and the
galvanized layer prevents corrosion from workshop oil and coolant.
- Warehouse Shelf Beams/Columns: Used for heavy-duty shelves (load-bearing 500-2000kg/layer). The
high flexural strength ensures that the shelves do not deform under
long-term load-bearing, and the galvanized layer prevents rust of
the steel section caused by moisture during goods storage.
Transportation Field
- Vehicle Side Beams/Support Parts: Such as truck compartment side beams and RV chassis brackets. The
lightweight characteristic reduces vehicle fuel consumption. The
high structural stability can bear the 颠簸 load during driving, and
the galvanized layer prevents corrosion from road rainwater and
deicing agents.
- Traffic Facility Frames: Such as highway guardrail supports and bus stop skeletons. The
weather resistance can cope with complex outdoor environments, and
the easy installation characteristic shortens the construction
period of traffic facilities.
