Thermocouple Connector Know-How
Thermocouples are available in various forms and shapes. They are
made of various diameters, length, sheath material, combinations of
the materials mentioned above, lead wire lengths etc.
The most commonly used shapes are beads and probes. The beads
shaped thermocouples are highly inexpensive and have very fast
response time. Probes are available in the market for measuring
temperature in different applications like industrial, medical,
scientific, food etc. The connectors used with the probes come with
round pins, called standard connectors, or the flat pins, called as
miniature connectors.
When selecting the thermocouple for any application, one should
consider the range of the temperature to be measured, the response
time required, accuracy and the surrounding environment. As per the
existing conditions one can select proper materials combinations
and proper shape of the thermocouple.
Thermocouple connectors are an accurate and convenient method of
interconnecting temperature sensing components. Use these
connectors to form a chain from the measuring tip of the
temperature sensor to the host or instrument. It is important that
all components in the chain are made of the same thermocouple
material to prevent any change or distortion of the original
signal. To achieve this, the pins of the thermocouple connector are
made of the same material as the thermocouple used to connect or
compensate the material. The thermocouple type is clearly printed
on the connector housing and is also marked with colors for easy
identification. Open the connector, and then use two fixing screw
clips to simply tighten the thermocouple wire in place. The
miniature thermocouple plug connector can then be inserted into the
mating miniature thermocouple socket connector.
