Production Process

Step 1: Raw Material Preparation & Melting

  • Start with high-quality polypropylene (PP) pellets, selected for their durability, water resistance, and tensile strength—critical properties for marine and fishing use. The pellets are first dried to remove any residual moisture (moisture can cause bubbles or weak points in the final rope).
  • The dried PP pellets are then fed into an extruder, where they are heated to a molten state (typically between 180°C–220°C). The molten PP is pushed through small, precision-engineered dies to form continuous, thin PP filaments (monofilaments). These filaments are cooled rapidly using air or water to solidify their structure, ensuring uniform thickness and strength.

Step 2: Filament Drawing & Stranding

  • The solidified PP monofilaments undergo a “drawing” process: they are pulled through a series of rollers at controlled speeds to stretch the filaments. This stretching aligns the PP molecules, enhancing the filament’s tensile strength and reducing its tendency to stretch under load—key for anchor and mooring lines that bear constant tension.
  • After drawing, multiple PP filaments (the number varies based on the target rope diameter: fewer for 4mm, more for 30mm) are twisted together to form “strands” using a stranding machine. The twisting direction (left or right) is consistent to ensure the strands have uniform tightness, which prevents unraveling and improves the rope’s overall stability.

Step 3: Twisting Strands into Finished Rope

  • The pre-made PP strands are fed into a rope-twisting machine, where they are twisted together in the opposite direction of the strand twist (a process called “counter-twisting”). This counter-twist creates balance, making the rope resistant to kinking and ensuring it lies flat when coiled.
  • During twisting, the machine adjusts the twist density based on the customized diameter (4mm–30mm). Thicker ropes (e.g., 20mm–30mm for anchor lines) require more strands and tighter twisting to maintain load-bearing capacity, while thinner ropes (e.g., 4mm–10mm for light fishing use) use fewer strands with moderate twist to balance strength and flexibility.

Step 4: Sizing, Heat Setting & Quality Inspection

  • For customization, the twisted rope is cut to the required length (e.g., 50m, 100m, or longer for mooring lines) using automated cutting tools. Some orders may include additional treatments, such as heat setting: the rope is heated briefly and then cooled to “set” the twist, preventing it from loosening over time or after exposure to water.
  • Quality inspection is conducted at every stage: filament thickness is checked with calipers, strand tightness is verified visually and via tension tests, and the finished rope undergoes load-bearing tests (to ensure it meets tensile strength standards for fishing, anchor, or mooring use). Ropes that fail to meet thickness, strength, or twist uniformity requirements are rejected.

Step 5: Winding & Packaging

  • The 合格 (qualified) customized PP twist ropes are wound onto spools, reels, or coils—depending on customer needs (e.g., small spools for fishing, large reels for commercial mooring). The packaging is designed to protect the rope from dust, UV exposure, and minor damage during storage and transportation, ensuring it reaches the user in optimal condition.

2. Application Scope

Marine Anchor Lines

  • Suitable for small to medium-sized vessels, including fishing boats, recreational boats (e.g., sailboats, speedboats), and small commercial vessels (e.g., coastal cargo boats) with a displacement that matches the rope’s diameter:
    • Thicker diameters (15mm–30mm): Used for anchor lines in boats weighing 5–20 tons, where the rope must withstand the pull of tides, currents, and wave action. PP’s water resistance prevents the rope from absorbing water (avoiding weight gain) and resists saltwater corrosion, ensuring long-term reliability in coastal or offshore anchoring.
    • Thinner diameters (8mm–14mm): Ideal for lightweight boats (e.g., dinghies, small fishing skiffs) anchored in calm bays or lakes, where the rope’s flexibility makes deployment and retrieval easy.

Marine Mooring Lines

  • Widely used for mooring vessels to docks, piers, or buoys in marinas, harbors, or coastal areas:
    • Recreational use: 4mm–12mm ropes for mooring small boats (e.g., kayaks, canoes, small sailboats) to private docks or marina slips. The rope’s twist structure ensures it ties securely into knots (e.g., cleat hitch) and resists slipping, even in light wind.
    • Commercial use: 12mm–30mm ropes for mooring medium-sized fishing boats or workboats. PP’s abrasion resistance stands up to friction from dock edges or metal cleats, while its UV stability prevents degradation from prolonged sun exposure when the rope is left moored for days or weeks.

Fishing Applications

  • Customized for various fishing scenarios, leveraging PP’s durability and low water absorption:
    • Fishing net support lines: 4mm–8mm ropes used to reinforce fishing nets (e.g., gill nets, cast nets) or to secure nets to boat rails. The rope’s strength prevents net tearing under the weight of caught fish, and its resistance to fish oils or bait residues ensures it does not degrade quickly.
    • Trawl line accessories: 10mm–18mm ropes for connecting small trawls to fishing boats or for securing trawl weights. The rope’s twist structure provides stability, preventing tangling during trawling operations, and its lightweight nature reduces drag in water.
    • Anchor lines for fishing buoys: 8mm–15mm ropes used to anchor fishing buoys (e.g., marker buoys for fish schools or trap locations) in coastal waters. PP’s resistance to saltwater and marine organisms (e.g., barnacles) keeps the rope functional for months, even when submerged.

Auxiliary Marine & Coastal Uses

  • Applied in secondary marine tasks that require reliable, water-resistant rope:
    • Boat deck securing: 5mm–10mm ropes for securing on-deck fishing gear (e.g., rods, tackle boxes), life jackets, or small equipment (e.g., anchors, fenders) to prevent movement during transit.
    • Coastal maintenance: 12mm–25mm ropes for temporary tasks in coastal areas, such as securing floating barriers (e.g., to protect swimmers from boat traffic) or for pulling small debris (e.g., driftwood) from shorelines. PP’s resistance to sand and salt spray ensures the rope remains usable after exposure to coastal elements.
