Product Introduce


The Cone Calorimeter is an advanced fire testing equipment developed according to the ISO 5660 international standard, which is used to evaluate the combustion characteristics of materials in fire. It simulates different thermal radiation levels (25~75 kW/m²) to accurately measure the heat release rate (HRR), smoke generation rate, mass loss rate and toxic gas emissions (such as CO, CO2) of the material. The test objects include building materials, rail transit interiors, aerospace materials, ship decks, textiles, wires and cables, etc., and are widely used in construction, transportation, furniture and other fields. The instrument is equipped with a cone heater, automatic ignition system, gas analyzer and high-precision weighing sensor to ensure that the test results are accurate and reliable, in line with international standards such as ISO 5660-1:2015, and is an important tool for fire performance research and product certification.

Title: Reaction-to-fire tests — Heat release, smoke production and mass loss rate — Part 1: Heat release rate (cone calorimeter method) and smoke production rate (dynamic measurement)


Content: This part specifies the test method for measuring the heat release rate, smoke production rate and mass loss rate of materials at a specific thermal radiation level using a cone calorimeter. The test is based on the oxygen consumption principle (about 13.1 MJ/kg energy is released for every kg of oxygen burned).


Update: Compared with the 2002 version, the 2015 version adds smoke measurement (including requirements for CO and CO2 analyzers), methods for handling special specimens (such as materials that are overly curled, molten or less than 6mm thick), and differentiated provisions for instrument calibration.


Test product content


The ISO 5660 cone calorimeter test is applicable to a variety of materials and products. It is mainly used to evaluate their combustion behavior in fire and is widely used in construction, rail transit, aviation, ships, furniture, textiles and other fields. The scope of the tested products includes but is not limited to the following categories:


Building materials


Wood: solid wood, plywood, fiberboard, etc.


Plastics: PVC, polyurethane, polyethylene, etc.


Composites: glass fiber reinforced plastics, sandwich panels, etc.


Coatings and surface treatment materials: fire retardant coatings, decorative coatings.


Insulation materials: foam plastics, mineral wool, glass wool, etc.

Requirements: The sample surface must be flat, the size is usually 100 mm × 100 mm, and the thickness is less than 50 mm; if the thickness is less than 6 mm, the actual substrate must be attached to achieve a thickness of 6 mm. A complete test requires 12 samples, which are tested at different radiation levels (25, 35, 50, 75 kW/m²), with 3 samples per level.
