IEC 60695 Needle flame test machine

Production introduction:

The IEC 60695 series sets global benchmarks for evaluating fire hazards in electrical and electronic products. Key tests include the Glow-Wire Test (IEC 60695-2-10/11) to assess ignition resistance under overheating, Flame Tests (50W/500W and Needle Flame) for material flammability, and Horizontal/Vertical Burning Tests (IEC 60695-11-10) to classify flame-retardant ratings (e.g., V-0, HB). These standards ensure compliance with certifications like UL and CE, covering components from plastics to circuit boards. Critical for manufacturers targeting international markets, IEC 60695 validates safety against real-world fire risks, supporting design integrity and regulatory approval.

Standard :

1. Glow-Wire Test
- Standard number: IEC 60695-2-10 / IEC 60695-2-11
- Test purpose: To evaluate the ignition and flame retardancy of materials or components under high temperature conditions, and to simulate the local overheating scenario caused by circuit failure.
- Method:
- Use a nickel-chromium wire heated to a specific temperature (such as 550°C–960°C) to contact the sample surface and observe whether combustion or continuous flame occurs.
- The results are evaluated by "ignition temperature" (GWFI) and "flammability temperature" (GWIT).
- Application: Electronic and electrical equipment housing, insulating materials, etc.
- Similar standards: VDE 0471-2-1, GB/T 5169.10-2017.

---

2. Flame test series
(1) 50W flame test
- Standard number: IEC 60695-11-4
- Test purpose: To evaluate the flame retardant performance of small electrical equipment or materials under low-intensity flame (50W).
- Method:
- Use a specific burner to apply a 50W flame to observe whether the sample ignites, the flame spreads, and whether the dripping material ignites the absorbent cotton.
- Application: Household appliances, connectors, small plastic parts, etc.
- Similar standards: UL 94 HB, EN 60695-11-4.

(2) 500W flame test
- Standard number: IEC 60695-11-20
- Test purpose: To simulate the burning effect of a high-intensity fire source (500W) on the equipment casing or material, and verify the fire isolation performance.
- Method:
- The flame continuously acts on the sample surface, and the burning time, smoke generation and flame penetration are recorded.
- Application: Fire assessment of industrial equipment, power cabinets, and building materials.
- Similar standards: ISO 9772 (foam plastic combustion test).

(3) Needle Flame Test
- Standard number: IEC 60695-11-5
- Test purpose: To simulate the risk of local combustion caused by fault arc or small flame.
- Method:
- Use a 12mm high flame (from a butane burner) to contact the sample to evaluate the flame spread and self-extinguishing ability.
- Application: Electronic components, PCB boards, insulation materials, etc.
- Similar standards: ISO 1210, BS 415-20.2.

---

3. Horizontal and vertical combustion test
- Standard number: IEC 60695-11-10
- Test purpose: To evaluate the burning rate and self-extinguishing property of the material, and to classify the flame retardant level (such as V-0/V-1/V-2).
- Method:
- Horizontal combustion (HB grade): The sample is placed horizontally and the linear burning rate is measured.
- Vertical combustion (V grade): The sample is placed vertically and the afterflame time and whether the dripping material ignites the absorbent cotton are recorded.
- Application: Plastics, foams, electronic and electrical components (such as switches and sockets).
- Similar standards: UL 94, ISO 1210.

---

4. Guide to Fire Hazard Assessment
- Standard number: IEC 60695-1-30
- Content: Provides a pre-selected test process for fire risk assessment of electrical products, including test environment settings, equipment inspections, safety specifications and data recording requirements.
- Application: Guide manufacturers to incorporate fire safety considerations from the design stage and support international certification (such as CE, UL).
