Ellagic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₁₄H₁₂O₄. It is a polyphenol dilactone and a dimer derivative of gallic acid. Ellagic acid is a natural polyphenol component found in a variety of soft fruits, nuts, and other plant tissues. Its color reaction with ferric chloride produces a blue color, while its reaction with sulfuric acid produces a yellow color.
