Application:

The 2418M506 seal is a single-piece Viton-rubber valve-stem seal used on both inlet and exhaust valves of Perkins 1004-40, 1004-40T, 1006-60, 1006-60T and 1106 series engines—power units that trace their lineage back to the 4.0-litre T4.236 and AT4.236 turbocharged diesels. In the field you will find it pressed into the cylinder-head counter-bore on Massey Ferguson 390, 398, 699 and 8200-series tractors, Landini Legend and Rex ranges, JCB 3CX/4CX back-hoes, Manitou MLT telehandlers, FG Wilson P27-P55 generator sets and a variety of compact construction machines. The seal snaps over the 8 mm valve stem and seats against the guide boss, preventing crank-case oil from being drawn into the combustion chamber while still allowing the valve to rotate and self-clean.

Technical specifications:

Inside diameter 8.0 mm, outside collar 14.0 mm, overall height 12.0 mm, lip angle 15°, spring load 4.5 N ± 0.5 N. Material is FKM (Viton A) fluorinated rubber rated −30 °C to +200 °C continuous, with a stainless-steel garter spring that maintains 1.2 N radial force after 1 000 h at 180 °C. Oil-side lip roughness Ra ≤ 0.2 µm, air-side Ra ≤ 0.4 µm to guarantee < 0.5 g h⁻¹ oil consumption per valve at rated speed.

Material & performance features:

The FKM compound resists swelling and hardening in 15W-40 CI-4 oil, biodiesel vapour and EGR condensate; tensile strength ≥ 15 MPa, elongation ≥ 200 %, Shore A 75 ± 5. The encapsulated stainless spring eliminates rust migration, while the twin-beam lip profile scrapes oil without starving the stem for lubrication.
